Tour Event 4 – Reports
Sue Thompson Marvellous again at Morley
Another show stopping performance from Sue Thompson secured her tenth consecutive tour win at event four this weekend. Only dropping an incredible four frames during the entire competition, Thompson showed exactly why her new label of ‘The Legend’ is so apt.
Sue didn’t even break into a sweat on day one as she eased past both Holly Cann and Hazel Dabrowski 5-0. Her Sunday morning encounter against tour newcomer Emma Wilkinson got off to a slightly unsteady start as she lost her first frame of the weekend, but pounced on Emma’s mistakes from there on in for a 6-1 win. Former Ladies Masters champion and England International Michelle Brown awaited in the semi final and at two apiece was set to upset the number one seed, however Sue was having none of it, playing some exhibition style shots to forge to a 6-2 scoreline.
Fellow finalist Michelle Rooney also hit some fine form at the Leeds club with wins over Helen Littlewood 5-2 and Julie Fane 5-0 on day one, and an excellent 6-1 win over Carly Smith in the quarters, to further prove why she has moved up to replace Carly at No.3 in the provisional rankings. Another great result against Anne Louise Arkle in the semis (6-2) secured her spot in the final.
Sue started the final off in style and with her confidence high, hardly left Rooney a chance throughout the match. It was a disappointing end to the tour for Michelle as Sue romped to a 7-0 victory, her second white-wash of the season.
Barbara Taylor takes the plate
After being knocked out of the main event by in form and eventual semi finalist ‘Loopy’ Anne Lousie Arkle, Barbara set her sights on the plate prize. With wins over Katie Bonham (4-1) and Donna Elliott (4-2), she faced Kent and England team mate Jackie Baker in the quarter final where she won 5-3. She continued with a 5-1 win in the semis versus Helen Littlewood, which led to a line up against another England team mate Sharon Lunn in the final. Barbara’s experience and form shone through with a 5-0 victory.
