Tour Event 2 – Reports
Unstoppable Sue makes it EIGHT!
Sue Thompson’s incredible Tour record continued at event 2 held at Club 147 Leicester this weekend as she nailed her eighth consecutive win. Seeded into the last 32, there was no stopping Super Sue as she dropped a mere three frames in her opening two matches on the first day of play against Lorraine Fivey (5-2) and Sharon Lunn (5-1).
A quarter final match up against Welsh Ladies captain Sharon Dickson offered an exciting prospect at 2 apiece but Sue didn’t let another frame slip and headed into the semis 6-2.
New to the tour and recent qualifier to the England team Emma Wilkinson played an excellent match to tie at 3 all but Thompson found second gear after a ball missed and cleared up 6-3 to reach the final.
Fellow finalist Collette Henriksen was high on confidence after her recent win in Ireland and coming through some very tough opposition in the earlier rounds: Katie Henrick (5-3), Amy Coley (5-3), Michelle Brown (6-1) and Michelle Rooney (6-3).
Henriksen made the first move in frame one but an unfortunate kick left her snookered on the black to let Sue in. From there Thompson showed different class by finishing an outstanding five frames without Collette getting a shot other than a dry break! Sue beamed with delight at taking the victory 7-0.
Amy Beauchamp takes the plate prize
No.16 seed and England International Amy Beauchamp claimed her first plate final with a win over fellow England team mate Sharon Wright. It was fitting that both players should meet in the final after qualifying to play at this year’s World Championships as part of the England team earlier in the weekend.
Beauchamp had wins over Lynne Pinches (4-2), Holly Can (4-1), Katie Henrick (4-2), Amy Dunk (5-2) and Hazel Dabrowski (5-2) before her 5-3 victory over Wright in the final.
